The secret of Gertrude’s 21 litres per day

Gertrude started dairy farming four years ago. She has one cow that lives in her khola by her house, peaks at 21 litres a day and has a calf every year. She makes sure that her cow gets the right amount of high energy food. Gertrude knows that if you don’t feed correctly then milk production reduces, cows don’t come on heat and so won’t get pregnant. She adds vitamins and minerals every day. She always makes sure that her cow has clean fresh water all the time, so important during the hot dry season. This video explains how much energy is required for milk production. Some farmers do not fully understand this and their cows will not milk so well. Good feeding also boosts fertility.
