Peter is a veterinarian who has specialised in dairy cows all his career. He worked as a hands-on dairy vet for 35 years and then started a veterinary consultancy business. He has published extensively in the veterinary press and has written three books on mastitis.
Peter is well known for his practical training of vets and farmers in over 40 countries over the last 30 years. He bridges science and practice, equipping people with the tools and knowledge to improve production, welfare and farm profitability.
In 2012 Peter started his journey training small-scale dairy farmers in Mozambique. He saw that there was a real need for the most basic of skills. Since then, He has supported small-scale dairy farmers in many African countries and Nepal on a voluntary basis.
In 2023, he started to produce some educational films for farmers which were very popular. In 2026 he formed Dairy School, a nonprofit social educational initiative to provide high quality educational films for small-scale dairy farmers around the world.
Through Dairy School, Peter continues to reimagine education for combining knowledge, storytelling and a commitment to equality to unlock the potential of farmers and transform rural livelihoods.
Roulex is from Kenya and holds a bachelor’s in veterinary medicine and surgery from the University of Nairobi. He has been the project veterinarian to the Shire Highlands Milk Producers Association (SHMPA) in Blantyre, Malawi since 2018. Before that, he spent 10 years working in livestock development and research in Kenya, West Africa.
He has experience in the commercial sector and with international institutions and NGOs including ILRI (International Livestock Research Institute), Caritas, and USAID (United States Agency for International Development).
Barnabas is an experienced veterinarian working in livestock development projects and programmes. With over 25 years of experience gained from coordinating and managing diverse assignments at both national and regional level, Barnabas has developed expertise in sustainable community livestock development for poverty alleviation.
Barnabas is currently the Technical Advisor and Project Coordination Support for the Jersey Dairy Development program in Zambia. This project will increase smallholder dairy farmer productivity, resilience and contribute to a sustainable dairy system. This includes capacity building in clean milk supply, training of AI (Artificial Insemination) technicians to deliver appropriate Jersey genetics, delivery of action-focused research, and a bespoke data management system.
Owen is a farm veterinarian dedicated to improving dairy herd health at every scale. After 20 years in clinical practice, he founded the Dairy Veterinary Consultancy in 2013 which provides advice and training to farmers, veterinarians, and dairy businesses in the UK and internationally.
His experience spans from high-production herds to small-scale farming in challenging environments. He has trained people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds on dairy farms in Sudan and small-scale dairy farmers in Mozambique.
This hands-on work has given Owen insight into the practical realities and constraints that small-scale farmers face, and the challenges of dairy farming in hot climates. His work bridges practical farm solutions with veterinary science. He has published extensively and co-authored Bovine Surgery and Lameness.
Zione is a Project Officer with the Shire Highlands Milk Producers Association (SHMPA) in Chisitu area in Southern Malawi. She supports more than 1,200 small‑scale dairy farmers, 90% of them are women. She is an excellent communicator with a strong understanding of the practical challenges smallholder farmers face.
Zione is known for her hands‑on, practical training style, spending much of her time in the field helping farmers improve feeding, calf care, heat detection, and milk hygiene. As a lead trainer for new SHMPA dairy farmers, she ensures beginners gain the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
She brings valuable frontline experience to the Dairy School Advisory Panel, helping shape farmer‑friendly learning materials grounded in real community needs.
